How to write the letter P
Capital P: Big line down, frog-jump to the top, then one little curve to the right that closes at the middle.
Lowercase p: Line down into the basement (below the baseline), then a circle up at the middle line.
Watch for: Where the line stops: capital P never goes below the baseline, lowercase p always does.
Tips for teaching the letter P
Say the letter name and its sound before tracing ("P says p as in pig"). Have your child trace the gray letters with a finger first, then a crayon or thick pencil — fine-motor control comes before pencil grip. One page a day beats five pages once a week, and always end on a success.
