How to write the letter Q
Capital Q: Make a big O, then add a little slant line through the bottom-right — the tail.
Lowercase q: Circle, then a line down into the basement with the tail flicking right.
Watch for: Tail direction — q flicks right, g hooks left. Saying it out loud helps.
Tips for teaching the letter Q
Say the letter name and its sound before tracing ("Q says q as in queen"). Have your child trace the gray letters with a finger first, then a crayon or thick pencil — fine-motor control comes before pencil grip. One page a day beats five pages once a week, and always end on a success.
