How to write the letter R
Capital R: Big line down, frog-jump, little curve closing at the middle — that's P — then a slant line out to the bottom corner.
Lowercase r: Little line down, then a small curve to the right at the top, like a flag.
Watch for: Teach R right after P: R is just P with a kickstand.
Tips for teaching the letter R
Say the letter name and its sound before tracing ("R says r as in rain"). Have your child trace the gray letters with a finger first, then a crayon or thick pencil — fine-motor control comes before pencil grip. One page a day beats five pages once a week, and always end on a success.
